These prototypes were designed and fabricated to develop ideas for door handles that appeal to the tacit wisdom encoded in the human grasp. If the primary function of a door handle is to open a door, then a well-designed handle ought to aspire to unify our body with the material world at the threshold between nature and the built environment. The form of each handle is shaped to the hand.  The exposed metal conveys strength while the warmth of the wood invites the touch.  The “Aviator” door handle was shortlisted in an international design competition with over 6200 entries.
