This renovation of an existing screw manufacturer’s building into a mixed-used machine shop with two new residential units draws its inspiration from the original character of the building. Existing brick walls, steel bowstring trusses, and warehouse windows inspire a new shed and sawtooth roofline, steel stairs and railings in a manner that appears they were there all along. The Owner’s, one a master machinist and the other a physicist, fabricated the architectural metal and hardware components themselves.
